sc'd gsr vs. sc'd type r

Hello everyone,
My friend just bought a black 2000 type r and will be arriving on friday, that very day a jr kit will be installed and financed through the dealership (charlie thomas acura), my questions is I know that the type r kit is a 5 psi, but who would win. Lundgren do you have the dyno plots for both? I cant wait to see it, I am assuming though that he will hand me a new corn hole considering they have lsd and better engine overall. I hasnt said that he wants to race me but I know it will happen

The R will have a slight advantage. LSD, lighter weight, better gearing, lighter wheel and tire combo. Despite all that, the advantage is only a small one in a straight line. It is close enough that you could outdrive him. But if you are talking turns, like autox, the limited slip will come up huge. The GSR's open diff doesn't work very well for cornering with that much power. I remember my GSR suffered from massive torque steer and throttle induced understeer due to the engine producing more power than the drivetrain was setup for. The SCGSR really needs an LSD, too bad they cost a fortune in parts and labor. You could bandaid the problem with a set of sticky track tires though.

gsrev: question?--how much did your friend get his JRSC kit for at charlie thomas acura? how much are they charging for the install?? and where is charlie thomas acura located?

oh, i think the Type-R will have you beat in the first turn you hit but, be pretty close on the straight line...anyways, do it on the drag strip! then post your timeslips for all!

I took the dyno's on JR's site. I put them together with a little Image Composer and walla!



Now every car is different, to say that they are pretty close is very accurate. The Type R is a bit lighter, but it won't make a lot of difference with this much torque added. The Type R would out handle a GS-R stock suspension, but the GS-R motor likes the SC pretty good.

thanks! Although I have my suspension beefed up w/ coil overs and agx's and some powerslots, i still don't plan on going into the twistys with him. Dammit I wish my car had that lsd ... no money right now But sounds like it should be real fun.

charlie thomas is on the south side of houston. My friend is a tech at charlie thomas so he is doing the install himself and is also paying cost which is i think 2300.00 or something like that. My chic also works at a dealership and got me mine for 2330.00 but I am so excited and it ain't even my car. I guess it is cuz they are always so nice to me. They never give me probs w/ warranty work or anything, it pays off to know the techs. Sometimes I go just to hangout, they are so knowledgeable.

I have heard many times that the GSR would take the ITR in a duel, but never have results from one been published. The dyno's that JR have up are showing the ITR with max hp at 209 w/ 144 torque and the GSR with 208 and 153. The GSR was bone stock w/ the blower and the ITR had the FP and boost retard. I would sure like to see what the outcome is though so make sure you race him right away I kind feel sorry for the guy cause it will be real hard to stay off of the gas long enough to "break in" the engine

Well, I HAVE the LSD and the whole ITR tranny, clutch, flywheel, etc. for that matter, in my '95 GSR. No more torque understeer! It made a whale of a difference on the auto-x track this year. However, I think the ITR gearing made the most difference. Best mod I've done to my car. Now all I need is the SC! But, that's coming up in the Spring. Can't wait!
